Ralph Penfold, Private L/10408 of the 11th (Service) Battalion (1st South Down) Royal Sussex Regiment was born in Leigh, Surrey about 1893, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Penfold.

His father was a Farm Labourer at Maple Cottage, Ifield.

Ralph died on 26th September 1917 and is also commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
